Fall ’22 / Spring ’23

A Message from Victoria Redfearn Cave, Artistic Director

Welcome to our 2022-23 season! In our eighth season, I am thrilled to announce our studio expansion.

We will continue to offer our beloved core program:  Patchwork, Mosaic and Mosaic Honors, which meet at the Ballet School, 2409 Ivy Road. Those programs offer some time-honored traditions such as “Christmas in a Barn,” Halloween and Valentine’s Day salon series, virtual PJ parties and music theory games, and Opera Camp.  We are joined by our thriving teen helper program, a group of Mosaic alum who volunteer to help each Sunday and provide artistic stability and leadership for our community of singers who are committed to a year-long performing ensemble.

This year, we will bring back a beloved group, Pebbles, our non-auditioned early childhood class.  In addition, the studio will add a non-auditioned theater option, Prism. This story theater troupe is for elementary and middle school children and is a 6-week class. Both Pebbles and Prism will meet at the Ballet School, 2409 Ivy Road.

Because the studio values artists studying multiple areas of arts, we are also offering an Introduction to Keyboard class to interested kindergarten and first graders and piano lessons for second grade through adults. Intro to Keyboard and Piano Lessons will be offered at the home of the Artistic Director in the Fry’s Spring neighborhood. We will also continue to offer virtual choir for those families looking for more flexibility from home, this will be a non-performing class.

We hope that one option in our studio inspires you to begin your music education journey. Most importantly, we hope that you find a community of fellow artists who can support you and your family.

We are thrilled to launch our 2022-23 season and invite both new and current families to experience the magic of the Mosaic community!

Mosaic, $600/year or $60/month (Sundays, 5:15-6:00 PM; Grades 3-8, Instructor: Victoria Redfearn Cave) This audition-based group is meant to take students into a deeper experience of collaborative singing.  Students are expected to have a solid ability to match pitch.  Students will explore their artistry through a multi-disciplinary approach to the choir.  Students who join are often interested in multiple elements in the arts:  music, dance, theater, creative writing, and visual art.  Rehearsals will engage students physically through warm-ups, movement games, and even yoga for singers.  Students will explore music literacy concepts deeper, engaging consistently with score reading, solfege, and rhythmic sight-reading.  Students are often involved with helping shape final sharings and performances. Students are invited to participate in an optional virtual music theory session Wednesdays 7:15-7:30 PM. January rehearsals will be virtual via Zoom and will feature targeted lessons in music theory as well as continued singing and choir instruction.

Mosaic Honors, $700/year or $70/month (Sundays, 6:15 – 7:15 PM; Grades 3-8; Instructor: Victoria Redfearn Cave)  This audition-based group is meant for students with a certain level of experience in music, singing, and harmony work.  Students are not only comfortable matching pitch but are comfortable singing in harmony (with a group.) Most of these students take lessons in other art disciplines, such as a private instrument or dance, or are heavily involved with their arts programs at school.  These students provide mentorship for younger students and have opportunities to participate in our bi-annual Salon Series, showing talents with a supportive arts community.  These students are vibrantly interested in their technical growth and work outside of rehearsal on music reading and sight-singing.  They are leaders in our final sharings and performances. Students are invited to participate in an optional virtual music theory session Wednesdays 7:15-7:30 PM. January rehearsals will be virtual via Zoom and will feature targeted lessons in music theory as well as continued singing and choir instruction.

Virtual Only Option, $600 yearly or $60/month for a family (Wednesdays via Zoom, 6:30-7:00 p.m., multiple ages, Instructor:  Victoria Redfearn Cave) This is designed for families who need to rehearse from home.  It is a multi-level class that will contain some pieces from Patchwork and Mosaic. There will not be separate groupings, so a family might have a Patchwork student and a Mosaic student who come together to rehearse. The class will not offer advanced theory work. Virtual only students are welcome to participate in the virtual pajama party and music theory sessions.  Students who are not enrolled in the virtual option, but who are sick on a Sunday might also use this time to “make-up” a class.  Students may join the in-person experience at any point in the year, but tuition will be adjusted to reflect the multi-level courses.
